Astral Echo also explores the connections between ancient African spirituality and modern metaphysical cosmology. Through an eclectic fusion of color, contrast, texture, natural landscape, geometric patterns, and human form, Amlak’s visualizations transition the viewer through the subconscious mind and outward to the ancestral memory on the astral plane. A vibrant array of ancient African symbolism combined with cosmic and celestial themes emphasizes a transcendence from the physical to the more subtle/etheric aspects of our existence.
Portratis of Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia, reoccur throughout Astral Echo, symbolizing the potential in man and the union of the divine and the mortal human. Selassie was a world renowned political and spiritual leader whose noble character and milestone achievements earned him recognition as a humanitarian who encouraged mankind to “become bigger than we have been: More courageous, greater in spirit, larger in outlook. We must become members of a new race, overcoming petty prejudice, owing our ultimate allegiance not to nations but to our fellow man within the human community.”
