“My work is about celebrating blackness, being black, being proud of ourselves and our heritages and culture. It is not about finding a sense of belonging within others. It is about finding a sense of belonging within ourselves.”

Tshepiso Moropa (1995) is a South African-born contemporary visual artist, photographer, illustrator, painter, digital artist, and archivist. Moropa’s visual artistry is predominantly about identity amongst Black women, exploring issues surrounding gender, race, hysteria, sexuality, and politics. In addition, she uses realistic, honest, and tangible events to bring forward and recount underlying issues that are not typically discussed or portrayed through mainstream media or through art. Mediums such as movement, photography, Photoshop, and music are used within her work, with archival black and white images of Black women as the focal point.
